Chemical Safety for Productivity Improvement Sessions - September - December 2018

CICM, with the support from the Chemical Productivity Nexus (CPN) and the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), has embarked on organizing a series of Chemical Safety for Productivity Improvement sessions in Malaysia. The key objectives of these sessions were to create awareness to SMEs on chemical risk in the event of incidents or accidents in their operations, as well as legislation and penalties governing occupational safety and health.  The global chemical  industry’s Responsible Care initiative in promoting the continuous improvement of safety, health and environment (SHE) performance, as well as MPC's productivity toolkit were also shared.


The first session kick started on September 27, 2018 (Johor Bahru). This was followed by the Northern region on October 4, 2018 (Seberang Jaya), Central region on October 6, 2018 (Petaling Jaya), Eastern region on October 18 (Kuantan) and concluded with 2 sessions in East Malaysia i.e. December 5, 2018 in Kuching and December 6, 2018 in Kota Kinabalu. Cumulatively, more than 190 participants all over Malaysia attended the sessions.

Each session featured the following presentations and also sharing of experiences:
1. Chemical Risks to Health in SMEs (CICM)
2. Overview of Chemical Productivity Nexus and Measuring Productivity through the ezBE Assessment Tool (MPC)
3. OSH Regulations and Implications from OSH Incidents / Accidents (DOSH)
4. BOMBA's Role in Hazardous Materials Incidents (BOMBA)
5. Responsible Care and Why it is Essential to Chemical Businesses in Malaysia (CICM)
6. Sharing of Experience on Implementation of Responsible Care (IOI-Pan Century Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd, IOI Acidchem Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS Chemicals LDPE Sdn Bhd, CCM Chemicals Sdn Bhd & ASEAN Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd)
7. Prevention Programmes & Social Security Schemes & Benefits (SOCSO)
